Civilization Revolution "The Victory Pack" revealed

Posted by Ken on Thu, 10/02/2008 - 10:30pm in

Well according to the dashboard on my Xbox there is a new scenario pack for Civilization Revolution called "The Victory Pack". It only shows up as an ad on the dashboard and isn't viewable when you look at Civilization Revolution under Marketplace. The other strange thing is it doesn't work yet, looks like someone added the ad to the dashboard before they should have. So anyway on with the details. It's called "The Victory Pack", it's going to cost 100 points, and it contains three scenarios. The size weighs in at a very tiny 124 KB. Full text with pictures below.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed Reviews are coming in :(

Posted by Ken on Mon, 09/15/2008 - 8:06pm in

The reviews of the new Star Wars game are starting to come in over on Metacritic and things aren't looking very good. They currently have 21 reviews with an average of only a 73. I had very high hopes for this game, but according to a number of reviews the game suffers from control and camera problems once you get into the tighter spaces in the game. This seems to be a common problem with most third person games, that game developers just seem unable to figure out.

Joystiq: Interview with Peter Molyneux

Posted by Ken on Mon, 09/15/2008 - 5:51pm in

Joystiq got a chance to sit down and talk with Peter Molyneux while they were there to play Fable 2. The got to ask him a variety of questions from his take on Too Human and Braid, to how he feels about Fable 1. His answer to Fable 1 might suprise you. The article is well worth the read for all Fable fans.

Joystiq: Three hours with Fable 2

Posted by Ken on Mon, 09/15/2008 - 5:35pm in

Joystiq got to spend three straight hours playing a finished copy of Fable 2 and give their impressions. I won't post any spoilers here, but judging from the article it sounds like it's going to be quite awesome. It sounds like the game is going to be a lot more indepth and more engrossing than the first title. It also sounds like their are going to be a lot more options that the player might not even realize. This should make a second play through much more interesting. Fable 2 comes out on October 28.

Mercenaries 2 Developer Coop walkthrough

Posted by Ken on Thu, 08/21/2008 - 9:55pm in

Joystiq has a pretty great developer walkthrough showing off the Coop play from the upcoming Mercenaries 2. Pay close attention to the fact the whole game is just one big open world and two players can work together on one mission or split up and do separate missions (ala Crackdown). Also notice the entire environment of the game is destructible. It's looking like it's going to be a really good game for those that like playing coop. Video is below.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed Demo Review

Posted by Ken on Thu, 08/21/2008 - 9:03am in

The Star Wars Force Unleashed demo is now out, and wow is it amazing. The game looks like it is going to have a very indepth combat system with multiple attack combos. The graphics and sounds look great, and the physics are amazing. The controls and using force grip take a bit of getting use to, but I think after a bit of time with the game it will become much easier. The only negative thing I can say about the game is the demo was just so short. Luckily you can play it again and again. I'm uploading my play through to Youtube now, and it will be attached below in just a bit.

XBLA: Galaga Legions Demo Review

Posted by Ken on Wed, 08/20/2008 - 11:18pm in

Why do Japanese companies feel they must add so many flashy graphics that it would give Hypnotoad a seizure? The game is pretty fun and enjoyable to play, and the graphics and sounds are pretty good. However the developers of this game are your typical Japanese company that seems to think every game needs insane amounts of things bouncing and floating around the screen. Literally half of the graphics moving around the screen don't have anything to do with the game itself. What bothers me the most are these thin blueish lines that dance around the screen and serve no purpose whatsoever. Is that a requirement to make a game in Japan that you have to add a bunch of unnecessary graphics to make the screen more flashy? Other than that one problem I thought the game was quite

Fable 2 Pub Games Gold Exploit found

Posted by Ken on Fri, 08/15/2008 - 4:25pm in

Several people have already discovered a pretty big gold exploit in the recently released Fable 2 Pub Games. It allows you to earn massive amounts of gold very quickly. You have to play Fortunes Tower until you unlock the last game with max betting of 600 or 1500. The video with full explanation is below. I am wondering if they will attempt to patch this, because it will allow people to start Fable 2 with millions of gold.

Tiger Woods 09 Demo Out

Posted by Ken on Thu, 08/14/2008 - 4:07pm in

The demo is now out on Marketplace for Tiger Woods 09. I had a chance to play it earlier. I didn't play the demo for very long, so I'm not going to do my typical demo review for the game. I did notice one feature that I though was sorely lacking from last years, and that is a readout that tells at what percentage you hit the ball. In last years version I found myself frustrated with trying to accurately hit the ball because I couldn't really tell how hard I was hitting it. Now it gives you clear feedback that you hit the ball 98% or 107%, and it really does help a lot. Hopefully they fixed all the bugs from last years version as well. I can't tell you how many times last year that the camera angle would switch into the trees and you wouldn't be able to see your character.

Overlord sequel in the works

Posted by Ken on Thu, 08/14/2008 - 2:40pm in

A sequel to the Codemasters game Overlord is officially in the works according to IGN. The sequel is going to include a new overlord, new realm, smarter and more destructive minions, and includes improved controls and visuals. This is good news to anyone that was a fan of the first Overlord. I thought the first game was quite fun and enjoyable but with a few bugs. Hopefully this game gets a little more polish to work out the rough spots before release.

Fable 2 Pub Games Released

Posted by Ken on Thu, 08/14/2008 - 2:27pm in

The Fable 2 pub games came out yesterday and I had a chance to play them. The set includes 3 games: Fortunes Towers, Keystone, and Spinnerbox. If you preordered Fable 2 from select retailers such as Gamestop or Amazon then you should have received a code to download these for free. Otherwise it's going to set you back $10. The pub games as a standalone game are clearly not worth $10. However since you can carry whatever gold you earn in this game into Fable 2, it is now very worthwhile to play for those planning on getting Fable 2. I'm not going to do a full on game review, because the game is just so simple. However let's talk about the games a bit. Fortunes Tower is a very fun and addictive card game that employs luck and strategy.

Fable 2 Achievements leaked?

Posted by Ken on Tue, 08/12/2008 - 12:18am in

The supposed full list of achievements for the upcoming Fable 2 are now listed over at Xbox360achievements.org There are questions about if this is a real list or not, so as of now this list is considered unconfirmed. I have copied the full list and have it below. Based on the humor found in the last Fable I have reason to believe these could very well be the actual achievements in the game. If this list is fake someone did a very good job with the humor.

Rainbow Six Vegas Gift Pack is out!

Posted by Ken on Fri, 07/04/2008 - 8:27pm in

The new and more importantly free "Gift Pack DLC" is now out for Rainbow Six Vegas 2. Included below is the full list of changes and a video showing the changes. Some of the changes are quite significant such as new Elite ranks, new A.C.E.S levels, grenade indicator, high stakes mode and more!

Halo Wars sports 2 player coop and 6 player adversarial

Posted by Ken on Tue, 06/10/2008 - 11:16am in

Halo Wars the upcoming RTS set in the Halo Universe will have 2 player online coop as well as 6 player online adversarial modes according to the latest issue of Gamepro magazine. The article details some of the new UNSC units such as the Vulture, Cyclops and Cobras. It also explains the control scheme layout. A good control scheme is an absolute must when you bring an RTS to a console. You can see the magazine scans here. After reading the article I think this game is going to be amazing. I can't wait to play the story mode in 2 player coop. If the controls play out as good as they look in the video is below then this could easily be the greatest console RTS game of all time. Video below is from 2007 E3.

All Youtube videos on the site are now higher quality!

Posted by Ken on Mon, 06/09/2008 - 10:05pm in

I have been fairly unhappy with how some of my youtube videos have turned out. The quality has been so low, that you could hardly tell what was going on. I recently discovered that Youtube is showing an option on their site to see higher quality links of videos, but that didn't carry over to videos that you embed on other sites. I have now figured out how to get the higher quality videos to embed on my site, so now all the Youtube videos should be a much higher quality and look much better. The downside of course is they are going to take longer to load, but I think that's a fair trade off considering this is a gaming site. Here are two videos showing the differences between the low and high quality. The low quality video was the video originally posted on this site, so you can see what people were forced to watch before the change. Videos are below.

Enemy Territory: Quake Wars Demo Review

Posted by Ken on Mon, 06/09/2008 - 4:00pm in

Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars demo is now live on marketplace. The game in case you don't know is based on Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory, but now set in the QUAKE universe. Basically what it boils down to is Quake Wars is a Battlefield clone but not quite as good. The full version of the game is already out with a lot of average to poor reviews. After playing the demo I can see why. The graphics are very tired and old looking even down to the character models. The sounds didn't sound very good on any of the weapons, even the vehicles. When firing the weapons they just didn't look or feel very good. The idea behind the game is a decent idea, it was just poorly executed. The game just feels like a 5 year old PC port. Part of that comes from the fact the game runs on the Doom 3 engine.

Call of Duty 5 by Treyarch and set in WWII is confirmed!

Posted by Ken on Mon, 06/09/2008 - 10:45am in

Call of Duty 5: World at War is going to be done by Treyarch, and it is going to be set back in WWII. Although not in the European theater, but this time it will be set in the Pacific theater with the US and Japan battling it out. While I had rumored these very facts back a month ago here, they have now been confirmed as facts here. Truly a sad day for Call of Duty lovers indeed to learn that Treyarch will be allowed to butcher the franchise again. Oh well heres to waiting for Call of Duty 6 which should be back in Infinity Ward's hands. One tiny glimmer of hope can be found and that is World at War will be the first Call of Duty to feature co-op play through the campaign, and multiplayer will focus on squad-based elements and vehicular combat. So that could be good, but I'm sure Treyarch will screw it up good.

Ninja Gaiden 2 Demo Review

Posted by Ken on Sun, 06/08/2008 - 9:27am in

The Ninja Gaiden 2 Demo is now out on Xbox Live. I was quite surprised with the demo as I really didn't expect to like it. I generally don't like fighting games, but this one wasn't to bad. It is very fast paced and frantic at times when a lot of enemies are attacking you at once. Just like the fighting arcade games of old it comes down to timing your button presses just right and stringing them together in the right order for combos. This is definitely a game were people with superior hand eye coordination will excel. I unfortunately don't posses superior hand eye coordination so for me a lot of the battles just came down to luck if I could time things just right. This is probably the type of game people are either going to love or hate, I don't expect a lot of middle ground. Video is below.

Civilization Revolution Demo Review

Posted by Ken on Thu, 06/05/2008 - 8:46pm in

The new Sid Meier game Civilization Revolution Demo just hit Xbox Live today. I have always liked the civilization series, and I have to say this one is looking like a perfect fit for a console title. It is not nearly as serious nor does it require as much micro managing as a standard PC Civilization title. I had great fun playing the demo, and went back and played it several more times. I wish the demo lasted a little longer, as you can't really get into the game very much before the demo ends. I am really looking forward to this game coming out.

XBLA: Aces of the Galaxy Demo Review

Posted by Ken on Thu, 06/05/2008 - 8:41pm in

The Aces of the Galaxy demo just came out for Xbox Live Arcade. It is a 3rd person flying game where your small space ship is constantly flying forward on a prescripted path, and you can kind of fly around the screen a bit. If you ever played the space ship levels from Lego Star Wars, then it's exactly like that. It was an okay demo, but nothing that got me excited. It did have pretty decent graphics considering its only an arcade title and not a full blown game.

Battlefield Bad Company Demo Review

Posted by Ken on Thu, 06/05/2008 - 8:33pm in

The public demo for Battlefield Bad Company is out, and I had a chance to play it earlier. The graphics aren't that great, but the game was still pretty solid. I really like the destructible environments and selection of vehicles. I recorded a video just from the single player part of the demo. I know when the game comes out everybody is going to want to play just multiplayer, because that's just what kind of game it is. If you have never played a Battlefield game before its a unrealistic run and gun with lots of vehicles, pretty similar to Halo although set in modern times. The only real complaint I had from the demo is why did they make the left trigger the accelerator in the vehicles?

XBLA: Penny Arcade Adventures: On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness

Posted by Ken on Wed, 06/04/2008 - 5:47pm in

Penny Arcade in case you didn't know is a web comic. Penny Arcade Adventures: On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness is an Xbox Live Arcade title loosely based on the comic. This game is one of the most innovative and original games to ever appear on the Xbox Live Arcade service. It is a true departure from typical arcade titles. Not only though is it just different, but it's amazingly fun to play. After playing the demo for about 10 minutes I went ahead and purchased the full version, which for me is extremely rare. This is a wonderful game, and I recommend everyone download the trial version and play it. It's a cartoon rpg type game with lot's of exploring and some puzzle solving. Video below.

XBLA: Buku Sudoko Demo Review

Posted by Ken on Wed, 06/04/2008 - 5:38pm in

Well it's a Sudoko game. You either like to play Sudoko or you don't. There really isn't any middle ground here. So if you like playing Sudoko then give this game a try, if you don't like Sudoko then you won't like this game. Video is below.

Nascar 09 Demo Review

Posted by Ken on Wed, 06/04/2008 - 5:34pm in

Well it's a yearly EA Sports title, so what do you really expect out of it? Yeah it's pretty much the same game as last year. It's basically a totally unrealistic arcade style racing game with Nascar drivers. Due to licensing issues all cars in the game are generic and no manufacturers will be present in the game (ex. Chevy, Dodge, Ford, Toyota). So it's pretty much a typical EA Sports game. They improved 10 things, while at the same time making a different 10 things worse. Of course they will fix those 10 broken things next year so you will want to upgrade, but at the same time they will break 10 other things to be fixed the year after. You get the idea. Video of me attempting to drive below. I really believe the Xbox 360 default controller is just not very good at driving games. It's to hard to hold the stick even in a turn.

Crash Time Demo Review

Posted by Ken on Wed, 06/04/2008 - 5:26pm in

Crash Time is a gigantic pile of crap. The graphics are so old and outdated they look like they came straight from the original Xbox. This game just looks so terrible I could only stand to play the demo for just a couple minutes before I deleted it off my Xbox. Video Below. The graphics won't look that bad of course from a youtube video, but trust me they are terrible. It's hard to imagine this is a brand new game, and not some 10 year old game.
